Cacak and its surrounding area are a venue for a number of cultural, educational, sporting, gastronomic and musical events, offering excellent entertainment to the visitors, as well as helping to enrich the knowledge of the tradition and culture of the Cacak area.

„DISOVO PROLECE“

When: March-May

The ‘Dis Spring’ poetry festival is the emblem of the Cacak cultural scene. Organised in continuity since 1964, it was named after the great Serbian poet Vladislav Petković Dis (1880–1917), who was born in Zablaće near Cacak. The festival is held annually and includes a number of events held in Cacak and a number of surrounding places, starting from 10 th March (the birthdate of poet Dis) until the end of May. In addition to the main prize for the lifetime achievement, the Dis Spring supports the creation of young authors. The organiser is the city library ‘Vladislav Petković Dis’.Visit the website


„ZLATNI POJAS CACKA“

When: April

The international karate tournament ‘The Golden Belt of Cacak’ is the largest and the oldest karate tournament in Europe’s EKF calendar of competitions. It brings together individual contestants and karate teams from all over the country and abroad. The organisers of the tournament are the Borac Contact Sports Club and the Karate Federation of Serbia.

SABOR FRULASA SRBIJE ‘OJ MORAVO’

When: July

The Flute Festival titled ‘Oj Moravo’ is held in Prislonica near Cacak. It traditionally features the finest wooden-flute players from Serbia, who come here to compete for the title of the best flute player and the prestigious award of the Golden Flute, in an amalgam of traditional and modern tunes played on the instruments made by the most famous masters. Preliminary contests for the central competition are held all over Serbia. Indigenous folk art and customs are at the heart of the festival, as well as the traditional crafts, in the form of hand-made items produced by flute-makers and old-crafts masters, weavers, knitters, embroiderers and housewives who present their skill in preparing old traditional dishes.

MEDJUNARODNI FESTIVAL FOLKLORA ’ETHNOFEST’

When: August

The ‘Ethnofest’ international Folk Dance festival features fold dance ensembles from around the world. Promotion of respect for tradition and customs of peoples worldwide, as well as collaboration and friendship are the aims of this festival. Ethnofest is part of the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF), an official UNESCO partner.

‘PRICA’- PIVO, ROK i CACAK-

The Tale is a rock festival with numerous rock concerts and diverse accompanying contents, organised in multiple venues around the city. The event traditionally hosts the most famous rock bands from the country and the region.

‘PLODOVI ZAPADNOG POMORAVLJA’

When: First weekend in September

The popular traditional economic and tourist event held in Zablaće near Cacak aims to promote local farming produce and bring together the producers and consumers. The diverse gastronomic contests and entertainment programmes attract a large number of visitors from the wider region.


‘KUPUSIJADA’

When: September

ОSince 2003, Mrčajevci has been known for a very special and highly popular event dedicated to traditional dish of sour cabbage, the ‘Kupusijada’. The contest in preparing cooked sour cabbage in earthenware pots is organised in several major categories, and the best dishes are awarded the prize of the Golden, Silver and Bronze Pot. Among the more than 1200 participants in the cultural and entertainment programme, there are folk ensembles, and some of the most famous folk singers and players.

‘DAYS OF PATRIARCH PAVLE’

When: September

The event is dedicated to the venerable Pavle, Patriarch of the Serbian Church, who took his monastic vows at the monastery of Annunciation in Ovčar Banja. The first part of the programme takes place in Ovčar Banja on 27 th September, including an exhibition of crosses from the artist colony titled ‘The Cross of Patriarch Pavle’. The second part of the programme takes place in Cacak, including exhibitions, talks and concerts of spiritual music. The festival has its branch events in Gacko, Republika Srpska, as well as in Nikšić in Montenegro and Kućanci in Croatia, adding to its international character.

‘DANI URBANE KULTURE – DUK FESTIVAL’

DUC is an international youth festival bringing together extreme sports, painting murals, hip hop culture and music. DUC aims to enrich the city’s cultural life, through a number of festival activities at the river bank, where the visitors can enjoy an array of events and take part in a number of interactive programmes.
